Mission Impossible: Fallout

Tom Cruise fans will delight in the amount of running in Mission Impossible: Fallout. The 56-year-old continues to push his body to the limits for this blockbuster series. He gives fans exactly what they want, while also continuing to challenge his daredevil self, even if it did mean infamously fracturing his ankle during one scene, which delayed production for months. This sixth instalment of the franchise has some exhilarating stunts that are mostly unlike anything else seen on film. They include the much talked about HALO jump sequence, a lengthy bathroom fight and a memorable helicopter battle.

If you missed some of the other films along the way, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie summarises the key details you need to know for the plot to make sense. Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his IMF team work with CIA assassin (Henry Cavill) to prevent a mysterious arms dealer and a group of terrorists from using three plutonium cores for simultaneous nuclear attacks. Cavill is an excellent addition to the cast, playing a cocky operative who must keep Hunt in line. It is quite a different role for Cavill and it suits him playing an adversary to the leading man. Meanwhile, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames continue to provide some laughs as Hunt's buddies. Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett and Rebecca Ferguson are also solid. Mission Impossible: Fallout is a little too long and there are a couple of plot twists that can be seen coming from a mile away. Some parts are also outrageously silly, but Mission Impossible: Fallout is largely what an audience loves about an action film.
