Some animations these days try too hard to cram in complex moral messages for children, with varying degrees of success, but Early Man keeps the plot simple and easy to understand for very young audiences. Set at the dawn of time, Early Man tells the story of Dug (Eddie Redmayne) and his tribe, who embark on a soccer competition against a far superior athletic team belonging to Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) in a bid to save their home. The film, directed by Nick Park, is very British in its style and sense of humour. Other famous voices include Maisie Williams and Timothy Spall. Older children and adults may not get as much enjoyment out of the film, but Early Man is a sweet tale about good sportsmanship, community and family.
